Former Advisor to U.S. Presidents Described Elements of Leadership at Lecture
Leadership cannot be taught, but its essential elements can be
identified and cultivated, said David Gergen, director of the Center
for Public Leadership at Harvard Kennedy School. The core components of
leadership come from within an individual, Gergen told a packed
audience in HSPH’s Snyder Auditorium on September 9.

Harvard University Launches Staff Survey of Employees as Follow-Up to 2006 "What's Your Harvard Like?"
Two years ago, Harvard asked all of its employees, “What’s Your Harvard
Like?” The survey gathered employees’ perceptions and opinions about
all aspects of their working life. The results
generated action plans throughout the University, and now, employees
will have the opportunity to weigh in on what progress has been made.
HSPH delivers high performance review participation rate for 2008
A performance review is about having a conversation with someone who
knows your work and can let you know how you are performing. This year, 94 percent of employees at HSPH (up from 34 percent) sat down with their managers to talk about their jobs.
“Pastries with Paul” Conversation Presents Q&A Opportunity for New Employees
New HSPH employees have an opportunity to get to know the School even
better through an effort dubbed "Pastries with Paul." Organized by
Human Resources, the initiative invites new hires to gather over coffee
and breakfast goodies to spend time with each other and with Paul
Riccardi, Dean for Administration and Operations.
How Do You Like Them Apples? Simple Exercise in Supply and Demand Transformed Kresge Atrium into Virtual Marketplace
Students in HSPH Professor David Hemenway’s Economic Analysis class
(HPM206) got a hands-on lesson in supply and demand on September 8,
when the Kresge Atrium was transformed into a fictional apple
marketplace. The course is designed to bring students to an
intermediate-level understanding of microeconomic theory, with
applications to public health.
HSPH Office of Diversity Under New Leadership
Dale Trevino is settling into his role as the new director of the
Office of Diversity at HSPH. The goal of the Office, established last
year, is to support new and existing initiatives that increase campus
diversity among the HSPH community, with an emphasis on faculty,
fellows, and students.
Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies Reopens after Renovations
The Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies celebrated
the completion of extensive renovations of its locations at 9 Bow
Street and 22 Plympton Street, Cambridge, on Tuesday, October 7.
